Stock rubber brake hose will have an average life of five to six years. Brake hoses deteriorate faster if under high operating temperatures e.g. down hills, heavy braking etc. Especially for cars at this age like the 1st generation Pajero.
Most of the rubber brake hoses have the possibility to absorb moisture and contaminate the brake fluid, contaminated brake fluid can be harmful to the rubber brake hoses' inner surface, and affect the braking performance. That's why the steel braided brake hoses come into the picture below.
